4th grade level math

Today I was given another math game to play with Mrs. Montoya's classroom. The instructions are simple and I can figure it out within seconds, yet some of the children tend to be confused at first, and it is interesting to see the difference between adapting to instructions and how it alters with age. It is at first a bit awkward but I just have to remind myself to be my weird and goofy self because kids are just as weird and they are not judging me, they are just as nervous as I am. The kids take a second to warm up but since the game is played between two kids, I let them pick one of their friends off the list so they can play with a partner and the situation is more comfortable. The kids are extremely lucky to be learning simple math like addition and basic multiplication, in compassion to my difficult chemistry agenda.  Watching these kids learn makes me wish I wasn't a senior in high school.

Race at Ryan

At Ryan, I haven't noticed race affect how the students interact with each other. They seem to not care and treat everyone equally which is how I think it should be. Their teacher Mrs. Montoya plays a part in this as shes having the students read books that involve other cultures. By doing this it allows for the students to understand where other classmates may come from. All teachers should do this as it helps reduce racism in the classroom. As we mature were exposed to a world that's not all lollipops and rainbows, we experience racism and start to believe stereotypes. I've noticed as we got older that we began to treat this matter as a joke in the form of memes, slowly getting blinded that this is a serious issue. Although with the help of our teachers we remember what racism is and know all stereotypes arent true for everyone.
Today due to the 5th grade class going to Keystone to spend a few nights, I was paired up with Mrs.Lewandowski’s kindergarten class. I solved puzzles with Gianni, he felt more comfortable with me when he realized that I spoke Spanish, since his mom did too, another child who’s name I didn’t catch was very outgoing towards me maybe because we had the same skin tone complexity.

High school vs Elementary school

Today since it was Halloween in high school the teachers didn't really say anything about it. it was pretty much like a normal day. When I went to elementary school, I heard they had an assembly and gave the kids a prize for dressing up. I also heard they had a little Halloween party for the kids. The way they teach in high school is very different than elementary. in elementary they students work at a slower pace and things are broken down for them. in high school, the teachers lecture for a little bit and then were thrown into doing our work, and if you need help you need to reach out and get the help yourself.

Teacher

The teacher that I have is a pretty goofy teacher. She is super kind to the students and gives them choices on what to do. The teacher is pretty funny. She occasionally cracks jokes and makes the kids laugh. shes super welcoming and always greets the kids as soon as they walk in. Teachers that are like this are usually my favorite. I really like when teachers are goofy and funny. I really like when teachers have fun with their job.

kindergarten

10/31 Today in class the students had just came back from a Halloween celebration with food, they weren't doing much so the teacher told us we could go get some leftover snacks and then we decided to join the kindergarten class and for the first time they started talking to us but what i realized is in elementary they goal isn't just teaching its helping kids interact and think creatively. In my opinion that is the opposite of high school, its all about passing classes and trying to think critically not creatively.

Elementary School vs High School

Today we got to work with the kindergarteners, they were more outgoing than the fourth graders. I really liked this as I like to get to know the students I'm working with. In all the time we've been going to Ryan I have noticed that the children get a lot of time to mess around and do fun activities. We spent our time drawing instead of learning something new about Halloween. Elementary school isn't full of as much education as Id like it to be. I feel as if it should be filled with more assignments like middle school and high school in order to prepare kids for the future. Teachers at my high school are always giving us hours of homework to do, meanwhile, kids get 10-minute homework assignments. They have more free time which means they can fit more into their schedule, a schedule they may not even have because some children don't have to do anything.
